It is probably because I spend so much time contemplating literary tragedy, that I find fate around every corner.
Switching gears today. and years. Right before we started rehearsals on Dido I was launching a tour of our multimedia show about gender. Raising funds to perform it for GSAs and queer youth groups. We kicked off the tour with a show at the Boston Alliance of Gay and Lesbian Youth (BAGLY). which meets in the same room BEMF stages its operas in. of course.
I thought of this a couple times during the rehearsals. of that early peformance of the opera at a girls’ school. as a cautionary tale. even a noble queen can be undone by a deceiver. keep your guard up. and your shoulders back.
so I’m back. Back from the ancient story we played out in that room. right back in my own 21st century drama. Gender. Identity. Acceptance. of you. of me.
We know it gets better, and we need to show our queer youth how. They need inspiration and support. They are crying out for it. If you could help…
